Utah is still the place to find oil and gas. This informational brochure provides information on the exploration and developmental opportunities of Utah's petroleum resources, explains Utah's geologic setting, and chronicles Utah's oil and gas exploration history. A land-ownership map is accompanied with leasing information for School and Institutional Trust Lands Administration (SITLA) lands and the Division of Oil, Gas and Mining's (DOGM) role and services for exploration and development of oil and gas. Another map shows the locations of Utah's oil and gas fields. Utah's major petroleum-producing provinces are described and basic data are provided, including the number of fields and wells, production, and pipelines.
