The radon-hazard potential of the St. George area is mapped based on geologic factors. Soil with the greatest potential for high indoor-radon levels is common south of St. George. This soil is derived from local shale outcrops and from granitic rock in the Pine Valley Mountains. Included on the map are the towns of Washington, St. George, Santa Clara, and Ivins. Answers are provided to commonly asked questions about the occurrence of radon, associated health risks, and radon testing procedures.
