Interim Geologic Map of the Woodland Quadrangle, Summit and Wasatch Counties, Utah (OFR-778DM)

The Woodland 7.5-minute quadrangle is in Summit and Wasatch Counties of northern Utah, situated on the southwestern flank of the Uinta Mountains, approximately 38 miles (60 km) southeast of Salt Lake City. The map area includes the southeastern extent of Kamas Valley, the census designated place (CDP) of Woodland, and the town of Samak. Geology of the Woodland quadrangle records a transition from Neoproterozoic continental rifting to Phanerozoic marine sedimentation, followed by episodic tectonic shortening and magmatism. The modern structural configuration of the area was shaped by Cordilleran tectonism of the Sevier and Laramide orogenies. Quaternary geology of the quadrangle is dominated by multiple glacial cycles, and mass-movement processes have significantly modified the landscape.
