The Utah Geological Survey Open-File Report 611 was compiled by William R. Lund, who served as the coordinator for the Working Group on Utah Earthquake Probabilities (WGUEP). Lund, a senior scientist with the Utah Geological Survey, led the collaborative effort to provide updated fault characterization parameters for seismic sources in Utah. The report also acknowledges contributions from the WGUEP Paleoseismology Subgroup, which re-examined trench data for the Wasatch fault zone, and includes data reviewed from existing literature and industry sources.
This report presents preliminary fault parameters for faults within the WGUEP study area that are also included in the U.S. Geological Survey’s National Seismic Hazard Maps. It was prepared to support the 2014 update of those maps and includes data such as fault length, dip, seismogenic depth, vertical slip rate, and recurrence intervals. The information is intended for use by researchers and planners assessing seismic hazards in Utah, though it is noted that the data are preliminary and subject to revision. The report emphasizes that while the fault parameters have been carefully reviewed, they have not undergone external peer review and should be used with caution
