Sunnyside tar sand deposit: data and references from industrial exploration projects (OFR-566)
By: J. W. Gwynn
The Sunnyside tar sand deposit, one of the largest in Utah, is located in Carbon County, about 25 to 30 miles east of Price, near Bruin Point on the Roan Cliffs. The majority of the bituminous zones are stratigraphically contained within Eocene sandstone bodies representing deltaic facies deposited near the shoreline of Lake Uinta. Amoco Minerals Company donated a large volume of corporate exploration data on the Sunnyside tar sand deposit to the Utah Geological Survey in 1999. Core analyses, Soxhlet extraction data, geophysical logs, core photographs, and other information for assessing the resource potential of the Sunnyside tar sand deposit are contained on this CD-ROM.
