The purpose of the map is to show the regional distribution of acid neutralizing capacity (ANC) classes to indicate areas where geologic materials will not buffer acidic deposition. The ANC classes target surface-water sampling programs. The map was derived from the Geologic Map of Utah, literature review, and personal communication with the Utah Division of Environmental Health, Bureau of Water Pollution Control. No field work was done.
