The St. George and east part of the Clover Mountains 30' x 60' quadrangles are located in the southwest corner of Utah, cover parts of Washington and Iron Counties, Utah, and border the neighboring states of Nevada to the west and Arizona to the south. Southwest Utah straddles the transition zone between the colorful, flat-lying strata of the Colorado Plateau to the east and the highly faulted Basin and Range Province to the west, and so includes a remarkable diversity of rocks, landforms, and geologic structures representing nearly every geologic period. Significant new discoveries of dinosaur tracks and fossils in these local strata shed new light on this part of North America?s geologic history.
