The Harrisburg Junction quadrangle lies in the transition zone between the Colorado Plateau and Basin and Range physiographic provinces. Stratigraphic units ranging in age from the Early Permian Harrisburg Member of the Kaibab Formation to the Late Cretaceous Iron Springs Formation and totaling about 8,200 feet thick are exposed in the quadrangle. Three Pleistocene basaltic lava flows, one Pleistocene cinder cone, and a variety of Quaternary deposits are also present.
