Bouguer Gravity Anomaly Map and Data of Timpanogos Rock Glacier, Utah (DS-4)

Utah has over 800 rock glaciers, which form in high elevation alpine environments and contain accumulations of ice. This ice is insulated from warmer temperatures by blankets of rock debris, called talus, that obscures the interior glacier structures and ice volumes and the true value of this potential water resource. This study of the Timpanogos rock glacier, located above Emerald Lake east of Mount Timpanogos in the Wasatch Range, was conducted as a first step to predicting the future water resources stored in Utah rock glaciers.

Bouguer gravity anomaly data was collected over the surface of the rock glacier to map its thickness and identify areas of ice accumulation within. Gravitational variations can indicate changes in subsurface density, and for this map, low gravity values were interpreted as the presence of subsurface ice. 

This publication contains the resulting map and data of the Bouguer gravity anomaly survey over the Timpanogos rock glacier and the adjoining area.
