Utah coal production for 2009 dropped 9.7% to 21.9 million tons, mostly due to the decreased demand as a result of the world-wide economic downturn. In fact, all of Utah coal mines, except the Emery mine, recorded production declines.
Data for this report were gathered were gathered directly from coal producers and consumers, and comparisons were made to national data, news and company reports, and data from industry experts.
