This colorful schematic map was printed in Denver for the New Wilson European Hotel in Salt Lake City in 1897, one year after Utah statehood, to commemorate the fifty-year anniversary of the Mormons’ arrival. The map is a chronological depiction of the Saints’ progress in 1847 across the Midwest and Plains, with miles traveled daily, and with vignettes showing a wagon train, a group of tepees, a bison herd, and numerous other scenes from the journey. The map includes place names, rivers, and mountains. Campsites along the route are noted with the dates on which the first emigrant party stayed at each site.
