Great Salt Lake's North Arm Salt Crust (RI-276)
By: Andrew Rupke, Taylor Boden, and Peter Nielsen
A salt crust has covered the floor of Great Salt Lake's north arm for most of the time period since the construction of the railroad rock causeway in 1959. This study describes the salt crust and provides information on its thickness, chemistry, mineralogy, and extent. Previous data were compiled for this report, and new field data were collected during the second half of 2015 and the first half of 2016. An unpublished salt crust study conducted during the early 1970s is included in the appendices.
