Wasatch Plateau oil and gas field, T. 13-17 S., R. 6-7 E., Carbon, Emergy and Sanpete Counties, Utah (OFR-192)
By: C. N. Tripp
Gas was discovered in 1951 from the Ferron Sandstone Member of the Mancos Shale at the Clear Creek field by Three States Natural Gas. Ferron production at Flat Canyon was established in 1953, and in 1955 at Joes Valley. Resurgence of interest in the Flat Canyon area was created when Indian Creek field production was established by Vortt Exploration in 1981. East Mountain field encompasses the Flat canyon/Indian Creek trend. Because of this, drilling activity at East Mountain (operated by Meridian Oil) is considered to be a continuation of Vortt Exploration's efforts in the Indian Creek Field, and not a new productive trend. As of December, 1989, production from the East Mountain wells was included with the Indian Creek field statistics in the Utah Division of Oil, Gas, and Mining production report.
