There were three primary objectives of this study. The first was to describe and photograph a complete section through the Blackhawk Formation. The second was to examine the varying properties the coals contained in the coal zones of the formation. The third objective was to correlate the Blackhawk Formation stratigraphy of this drill core (particularly coal zones) with those of the surrounding area and construct a geologic cross section across Trail Mountain.
