The quadrangle was mapped to provide geologic data for a variety of derivative uses, including to identify and delimit potential geologic hazards for Utah Geological Survey (UGS) geologic hazard maps of urban and rapidly developing areas being prepared as part of the UGS Geologic Hazards Mapping Initiative. The quadrangle includes southern Goshen and Utah Valleys and northern Juab Valley. These valleys are separated by Long Ridge and Warm Springs Mountain to the west and the Wasatch Range to the east. The map area also includes Santaquin City, the towns of Genola and Rocky Ridge, the north part of Mona Reservoir, and several important infrastructure networks including U.S. Highway 6 and U.S. Interstate Highway 15. Bedrock includes Paleogene-age volcanic and volcaniclastic units, Tertiary-Cretaceous-age sedimentary rocks, Paleozoic- and Neoproterozoic-age clastic and carbonate sequences, and Paleoproterozoic-age basement rocks of the Santaquin complex.
